Glen McMillan Okara Ward A POWERFUL VOICE FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Promoting the Riverside Drive Whangarei Development

Whangarei needs to spend wisely and invest in projects that will give a return on investment

These investments need to be scrutinised and questioned investment that fails to return it a lost opportunity. Our population is small budgets are limited

As a candidate for Okara Ward Whangarei if elected I would be wanting to know how money is invested or spent by our council. I have run successful businesses, I understand budgets.

Back to the business of promoting Whangarei

The proposed 200 million dollars Riverside Drive development.

This will enhance Whangarei as a destination and supplement the Hundertwasser.

They have my support on what will be a game-changing project for Whangarei.

The development is a mixture of a public and private and will bring great benefits to the people of Whangarei and Okara including jobs during construction, and jobs once the job is completed.
Figures below supplied by the development agency.

This will create $250m of direct economic impact, over 160 jobs once constructed and a minimum of 240 during construction it will attract an additional 25,000 visitor nights.

This will mean jobs while under construction and jobs once completed and with those extra 25,000 visitors nights will come spending power within walking distance of our CBD.

When I am elected to council I will want to see this go-ahead to help lift our local economy it will create both short term and long term benefits in employment and potentially be just what our CBD needs. There will be benefits that the people of Okara Ward and Whangarei as a city and a destination need.

We have the Whangarei Hundertwasser already underway the Riverside Development is another huge step in the right direction. This will benefit Whangarei for years to come.

In the big picture with the railway development and the hope that it be developed over to Northport. But to make Northport economical Northport will need huge expansion.

So the Riverside Drive development would compliment Northport as well if we want those cruise ships to visit often we need to make Whangarei a destination city.

So Northport could expand to get logs and freight off our roads and also have some quality docking facilities for the cruise ships, water ferries could then bring visitors into the newly developed riverside.

An opportunity for Whangarei

Promoting business Make Whangarei a destination

The proposed 200 million dollars Riverside Drive development.

This is a total no brainer what a huge project if it goes ahead it will bring huge benefits to this whole area in Okara Ward.

This will greatly enhance other projects already underway including the town basin and the Hundertwasser along with new carparks on Pohe Island and sports grounds.

A new park going in at The Hub side of the canopy bridge. In Okara Ward Whangarei it is all go, we need to keep the ball rolling.
